I like this guy - I've run into many of his videos on UToobz - good stuff all
Problem is, that most religious people still need to delude themselves to "appear" that they are STILL using the bible and their "god" as the moral guide so they create convoluted reasoning for why one thing MUST be followed (gay is an abomination) while other things can be thrown aside and old/outdated and no longer relevant.
But he IS correct that since "god" has never specifically proclaimed that he "changed his mind" on anything withing the bible (that he [god] never COMMANDED to be written/collected/collated and published), there is no earthly reasoning that could be put forth to disregard ANYTHING the bible says ... yet they do this with utmost frequency - using their own internal, mortal reasoning - edit, omit, update, retranslate, modify, or in other words cherry pick at will - the parts they choose to follow from the scriptures and HOW to implement the bits they pick.
Interestingly, they also seem to have "out clauses/reasonings" for the parts they do acknoledge and follow so they can conveniently NOT have to follow even their most cherished bits when they are inconvenient (Example: 10 Commandments - Adultery) - we see this hallowed biblical rule broken with great frequency by the faithful but it's "Okay" for them because they believe/have faith and accept jeebus so they are automatically forgiven as many times as needed ... yet a non-believer or follower of anything else - well, it's lake o fire for you, first offense, no questions asked, no excuses - scripture DEMANDS it.
I'm always stunned how this double standard is completely missed ... yet never surprised in the slightest
Understood on all counts. It's simply astonishing to me, how, in the flippin' 21st century, people living in first-world countries...::cough, USA::...still believe that morality is obtained from the bible, a book that condones slavery and the execution of rebellious teenagers. Oh, and recommends that rapists marry their rape victims. Yeah. It's really incredible that someone could keep a straight face and tell you that you cannot be a moral person unless you follow the bible.
The only consolation is that Christianity is losing its foothold because today's youth have access to other things besides their church-going parents and youth group pastors. Thank Zeus for the internet!
